Contemporary Jewellery by Artist Heather Grauaug
At Katherine Kalaf Gallery
September 7 - 21

Artist, Heather Grauaug is best known for her abstracted photographic artworks represented by Goddard and de Fiddes Gallery.  Gallery Director, Katherine Kalaf invited the artist to consider the opportunity to work collaboratively with a group of other non jewellery artists in the hope that new kinds of approaches to jewellery would emerge.

True to her love of reproducibility, Heather has salvaged mass manufactured components and given them new uses, using the refined sensibility she applies to her photographic artworks. The results are surprising and remarkably accomplished. Such was Heather’s output that a separate exhibition has been initiated for the presentation of her work alone. The artist has been substantially helped in the making and interpretation of each idea by the generous and considerable technical making skills of jewellery artist, Gillian Rainer.

QUOTES   Heather Grauaug
“Most elements used in the pieces created for this exhibition are mass manufactured, designer hardware for domestic interiors. I found their proportion, shape and finish surprisingly fresh when juxtaposed with photographs or other found objects such as antique gem pieces found in India 25 years ago. These I welded to teabag squeezers to make over-sized pins and pendants threaded on large stainless steel ball chains.

“I majored in sculpture and painting and now exhibit abstract photography at Goddard de Fiddes Gallery in Malcolm Street, Perth. This work reflects all three elements of my art practice.”
